Glastron SX 175 Won't Shift into Drive or Reverse

Hey guys. New to the forum and made an account to ask this because for the life of me I cannot figure out what's going on

While boating in the Colorado river everything was working well.. Parked it on the dock.. Tied it down. About 2 hours later I went to take the boat out and started it up.. Everything starts up fine. But when I put the throttle down. The engine just revs and rpms rise. The propeller won't spin in neither drive or reverse. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Any help is appreciated. The engine is a 4.3 V6 Volvo Penta.

Please post the full model of the engine and the drive.

The back cover on the drive comes off to reveal the shift mechanism on the drive itself. It may have become disconnected.

Or, the cable may have somehow become disconnected at the throttle assembly inside the boat.

Depending on your drive, there is usually a bolted assembly and a cotter-style pin that hold shifter cable in place on your drive.
On mine it's 30 seconds to pull the cover to do a visual inspection, but yours may be different.

Hopefully, either one of those two issues would be a simple fix, and hopefully nothing is damaged in the drive itself.

The other option would be a spun prop hub, but you should see at least some motion with that, as the shaft that the prop rides on would still be spinning.

Make sure that the button that allows you to free rev the engine isn't stuck in, usually in the centre of the throttle lever.

Okay so i figured out the problem, just need advice on fixing it.. When I put the throttle down for it to go into gear, no matter drive or reverse, the metal I took a picture of (bottom of post) goes in the direction needed, but it just wont ''click'' or ''snap'' into gear? Thus the propeller doesnt spin.. and the rpm's just rise... Anyone know whats going on?

From what you say I am assuming the gold painted part (mid picture) turns through approx. 30 deg up and down. If it does and you can still turn the prop SHAFT (not just the prop) both ways no matter where the shift bracket is, then you have a problem that probably needs a well equipped workshop to look at and fix.
Can I recommend you download the Workshop manual "7743008 SX DP-S drives" which I believe is in the Adults only section of this Forum, and turn to page 130 to see what is involved and decide if it is within you skill set to attempt the repair. It might just be a problem with the shift shoe and you might just be able to see and fix it easily, however if it is more complicated you do need the manual.
Oh by the way there should be a lock nut on the end of the shift cable butting up against the brass nipple.
