Me and my bro have this boat. Its a 97 model, with a 4.3 GL in it.
Last year we took it out twice, it fired up fine and ran fine. We winterized it, and let it sit all winter. We got it out this weekend and it will not crank. The starter is turning, the battery is charged, the gauges are working most of the time, as in they get power most of the time, but sometimes they dont get any at all, and of course when this happens the ignition does not work.
When the ignition is working, we are not getting any spark to the distributor cap. We have tested the ignition coil, and replaced it with one that we know works. Still no spark.
We have spent all day today with a really good mechanic friend and he is at a loss as well.
Here are a few more notes, the kill switch, was hooked up to the radio, for whatever reason, and this is where the radio got its power from. So in the kill switch, there are 2 black wires which are grounds, 2 pigtailed red wires, one from power on the fuse panel, and the other goes to the radio, and then there are 2 purple wires that I believe go back towards the motor. The 2 purple wires both have power, key on or not, unless you pull the safety off of the kill switch.
The radio is messed up and that fuse, 15amp, that runs from the kill switch to the fuse box, that runs to the radio on the other end, blows everytime we try to crank it.
We are getting power to the igition coil, but the spark plugs are still not getting fire to them. We have used 2 different plug wires that run from the ignition coil to the distributor, and replaced the distributor cap and the rotary button.
Any ideas?
Also is there anywhere i can get a repair manual for either or glastron boats or the volvo penta without having to buy one?
