Is there any way to glue a transducer transom mounting bracket to the transom of an aluminum boat instead of screwing or bolting? The boat is an xpress and is painted.

Although I have mounted them in the past using bolts after drilling holes and am comfortable knowing how to seal the holes etc., I just would like to know if there is another way to do it. Such as using 3M 5200 maybe? Or something else?

Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this?

Thanks!

This worked for me. Bond a block of teak to the transom using 3M's 5200. Tape in place untill the 5200 cures. Mount the Xducer bracket to the wood block w/ S.S. screws. You will be good to go.

Re: Gluing transducer bracket to aluminum transom

I used just plain old silicone seal on the transducer bracket for testing. Cures a lot faster the 5200. For the final mount I put it next to the Speed Pitot tube and used the same screw that holds it.

I think the best way is to buy or make one of the transducer mounting plates. Glue or bolt the board to the transom. Then mount all of your transducer on it but do not drill into the boat. Every 10 years or so you're likely to get a new transducer or depth finder and the holes of the new unit never line up with the old. I think for a aluminum boat just go buy big block of aluminum at least 1/2 inch thick. Use Silcone seal to attach then drill into it to attach transducer, Water temperature, and Speed Wheels.
Iboats has both Horziontal and Vertical plates.
Here is a link for this site but also go to Cabela's and search for transducer plate. Cabela's has a nice Vertical and Horziontal Plate in White, Black or Gray.

http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...rch_in_category=t&view_id=39545&page_number=8
