Just completed this repair. water leak between manifold and block. the pipe plug in the head (between cyl. 6 and 8 rt side or cyl. 1 and 3 left side)corroded away at the bottom of the plug.there was enough room to drill and retap a 1/4 in plug within the existing plug because the existing plug could not be removed.this may apply to v-6s and big blocks also.

Re: GM 305-350 V-8s Repair Tip

I had that same problem with a 5.7 I once owned.I discovered it a day before the July 4th weekend so I took a shortcut.Mine was leaking from the corner of the depression for the rachet.I attached a very stiff brass brush to my drill and made the pipe plug shine and sprayed with brakeclean and filled with marinetex.I forgot about the repair until I sold the boat 7 years later.I guess I did a pretty good job!!
