I just bought a 1999 Yukon and have heard that you can change the "chip" which controls much of the engine's performance. I know nothing about this.

If you have done it please provide some info. What kind of changes can you make? - - The good, the bad, the ugly.

The Yukon will be my wife's daily driver plus we will use it to pull our 6,000 lb 23' double axle CC in southern Florida.

It should already be equipped with a tow/haul switch on the transmission.

You can chip it for more power, override the factory speed cut-off but.... they sell programming devices and chips that will all allow you to revert to the initial programming. I have not seen a chip that improves daily mileage for the 5.7 yet.

Save your cash for now.

Bob

Definately save your money my 97 Tahoe has had it's Prom reprogrammed by the HyperTec unit that Bob mentioned basicly the timing has been advanced making my speedo 4 MPH off plus it makes my truck shift gears sooner then I would like and there is no Difference in mileage or performance over our 2001 Tahoe.I was hoping to go back to the stock setting's but the Kid we bought the truck from can't/could'nt find the unit and the dealer wanted an arm and a leg to set it back.

Now if your talking big Diesel trucks 3/4 ton on up there is some improved technology for these trucks that helps with mileage shifting towing performance.
