It's another Thanksgiving, and very thankful we all are i'm sure. This year instead of myself or the wife doing the carving,we will be assigning that task to our nephew who came to live with us this past summer. Who does the carving in your home?

Well as of 2 year ago, I took over the routine of carving at my home and also at my mom's house.<br /><br />Before that, my brother and I took turns.

At the better half's request, I'm not allowed around sharp implements. Something about walking & chewing gum.... Hmmm, wonder what she meant by that??

Well,<br /><br />Since I have to put myself in harms way with the HOT boiling oil to deep-fry the turkey, the Wife usually carves it up.<br /><br />If anyone hasn't tried a deep-fried turkey..You don't know what you're missing!<br /><br />H.

As I will be celebrating at my parents house I have no idea who will carve the turkey. On the other hand I have it on good authority who will be cleaning the mess afterwards. :p

Elmer Fudge <br />For the most part we have just been having fun with your post. But your question was a good one<br /><br />"Who does the carving in your home?"<br /><br />It does seem that in most families that one person is charged with the carving of the turkey.<br />I've been doing it for 20+ years, not because of any skills but I think since I like to hunt and fish that they think I must be good a whacking things :) <br /><br />Now you and Homerr talked about deep frying the turkey??? I'm also charged with bringing smoked turkey and ham... whats the deal with deep frying as I'm always up to learning.

Elmer.... Peanut oil here too.<br /><br />We've been frying our turkeys for bout 20 years now. Started with a home-made frier that dad made, using a cut out section of a 30 gallong barrel, and a burner out of a gas water heater.<br /><br />Bout 5 years ago, word got out on big on frying turkeys,,, kinda pissed us all off since we'd been doing it that way for years.<br /><br />origonally, we just covered inside and out with cajun seasoning, and wrapped in foil overnight.<br /><br />Now, we do one like that, one injected tyariki, and one injected with Italian salad dressing, the italian dressing makes it soooo juicy.<br /><br />...injecting beer in a brisket on the smoker is quite ymmy too.... every 45 minute go out and give it it's medicine.... 5-6 hours later devour!

Re: GOBBLE..GOBBLE..GOBBLE!!!!

I started frying it about 10 years ago, my wife's family are from louisiana and that's how they like to do it,so i just kinda fell in line. I use one of those big pots with the burner, the same one that we also boil crawfish in. This year i'm seasoning it with a cajun mix which i got from Tonys Seafood market in Baton Rouge,LA. I like to inject it with a mixture of onion juice, garlic juice,a lil bit of tabasco and teriyaki sauce.I heard about using italian dressing,i'll try it one of these days. :)
