Last year the engine had gobs of oil dripping out of the lower exaust. When I winterized it for the winter. Leading up to that the engine did not run well for about a month. This is what I did so far.
-found a cylinder that was not firing. Replace all wires & Plugs (oem). All cylinders Firing now. Although it could be interminant and I don't know it.
-Replaced VRO pump
-rebuillt carbs. No major issues found.
-rebuilt water pump.

Fired the engine up today. It turned over the first shot. There was a decent amount of blue smoke coming from the exaust. It ran ok... After shutting it down GOBS of oil collected on the thru hub exaust. Could this be left over oil from the mis-firing cylinder last year? Need help and getting a bit frustrated. Compression is 140 across 4 cylinders of a 1995 130hp Johnson..

Probably. Running it is flushing out the exhaust. You might add seafoam to the fuel to help clean everything while running.

get a can of BRP engine tune, with the hose that connects to your primer, follow directions on the can.

So you guys think the engine needs to run it course to get he rest of the oil out? I have a bottle of startron would that help? What caused the gobs of oil? How can I reduce the blue smoke issue. Thanks Everyone.

If it is a dark brown or black watery emulsion dripping out, then that is unburned oil and soot from the exhaust port. It usually builds up and drips if the engine isn't run hard enough to heat up and burn off the deposits, such as running on a flusher.

Take the boat out and run the heck out of it to clean out the insides. Decarbonizing does help but will initially had more drippings until everything is burned out.

This is assuming that the carbs are not flooding, each cylinder is firing, and the "VRO" isn't clicking madly from air in the fuel system.

One last question..

I have a glass see thru fuel filter on the engine (aftermarket moeller product). When the engine is running the bowl is almost empty. Should'nt there be a decent amount of fuel in the bowl.
