Rant on...

When it was time to move my company's domain and web hosting to a new provider I took our web developer's advice and went with GoDaddy. What a piece of crap! I should have stopped before I comitted to setting up the account. The sign up form was full of all sorts of extra stuff you have to carefully opt out of. Their website looks like a train wreck. Their administration interface is a bastard hybrid mixture of what looks to be their old interface and their new Flash based interface. It's slow. It's full of navigational dead ends. It takes a while for any changes to commit (we're talking simple password changes, not DNS propagation here). They constantly spammed my mailbox with offers until I opted out of that. Their webmail is full of features that you don't have. The links take you to pages to sell you the new features. I don't want my users to have to deal with that crap. If a link says "group calendar" then take me to the group calendar. Don't try to sell me one. I had to put in a support ticket with them last night and their response was to tell me to call my web host and have them change some things in my DNS. WTF?!? They ARE my web host. They make me want to wrap my head with Glenn Beck brand duct tape and go on a Lewis Black tirade about them.

Rant off, thanks for reading.

Re: GoDaddy

Depending on the type of business.... there is probably a company that will template and host the business. I control 2 web sites one for Toyota which is fairly an open playground and I can do what I want to and the other is for Scion which has more rules and regulations than a small city government!

My sites are hosted though one provider and not a day goes by where I am not either tweaking the site or calling the support staff. My terms are simple..... fix it or I will leave and find another provider.

I guess the best part is I have established a good relationship with the provider (who specializes in automotive). Actually my hesitation is no one will probably be better and I don't want to "learn" new systems and people.

Trust me I feel your frustration.

Hey Go Daddy had some good superbowl commercials......

Re: GoDaddy

Years ago I built a site using Yahoo and never had any real problems.

A year ago I tried GoDaddy and found it just as you describe. I have it screwed it up so bad that it gives some FTP error and I ended up giving up on it. I haven't got around to calling them about it yet since the project fell into limbo.

Maybe they can send over Danica Patrick to fix your Goddaddy.

Re: GoDaddy

I use itxdesign.com

Tech support is very good and you can actually reach live people. Only problems I ever had is when they were changing the location of their servers one weekend and it took them longer than they thought it was going to take...my site was down for almost 12 hours. That was pretty much the only hiccup in 6 years.

I use godaddy to register domain names but that is about it.
