have a 1971? 165 mercruiser fixed lifters other day took out for a run worked perfect for about 2 hours temp good ect then tried to give gas to get moving again and huge grind and smoke from engine compartment turned off got a tow in. what happened or any ideas where to start looking? new to the whole boating seen but the moter itself is great not so good where else/ tranny? what? awful smell that something burnt up in there. anyone got suggestions. thanks in advance
