I've made a decision regarding the rotted out transom/stringers in my 1968 Mark Twain boat. Even though I am a complete n00b when it comes to fiberglass work, I am going to attempt - why the heck not, I have nothing to lose - right?

My first (of probably MANY) questions...

When I strip the hull and take off the top. Can I then tip the hull on to it's side while I'm working on it, to make it easier to access, or will that be a bad thing. What about if I brace it..

Thanks!

Re: Going for it

I would leave it on the trailer and brace the top edges to reduce distortion when reglassing. Be tipping it you would almost certainly end up with a mishaped hull. There have been a few people on this site that strongly recomend glassing in one stringer at a time. Good luck and post some pics of the project if you can.

Rob - Jump over to the Project Boats section. Lots of info there that may be helpful for your project.

How big a boat is this? IF you glass in some 2x4s across the inside of the hull before you remove the deck, as temp bridging, then yes, you can tip the hull carefully. after you put the deck back on, then cut the temps out....good luck
