Going to dive in and rebuild carbs

Symptoms are very hard to start cold with a good amount of cranking before it kicks then several more attempts before i can keep it running. Runs well after that, but does have a flat spot when accelerating that i have to feather the throttle thru.


I've read the stickies and apears to be not too tough.


1984 75 hp and thinking part 18 7222 iss what is needed. Getting the one with the float?


So right part and right approach to performance issues?

Same exact motor I had for a few years. Great runners!!! I have a few suggestions. Fist, that is a Sierra part number. I would get Evinrude parts when it comes to carb kits. If you do carbs, I'd also get a fuel pump rebuild kit, replace
All your fuel lines, and put on a new fuel water separator.

go to shop.evinrude.com and it will give you a full parts list for that motor. Easy job, and rewarding.

Just do yourself a favor and make sure compression is up to par first.

redneck joe, I have to ask, how big a carb do you have to say you're ready to jump in and rebuild the carb? ound:

​You shouldn't have any troubles rebuilding carbs, it really isn't that hard to do. If I can do it, anybody can. Just disassemble, clean everything out including all passages and jets, and reassemble again. It is a breeze.

Oh, yes there is one thing to be careful about, don't use compressed air and send the jets crashing through windows to never never land outside. I heard that can happen and I won't say who did it. :facepalm:

What other trouble shooting has been done ?------Sometimes we see---" cleaned the carburetors and motor still runs the same " an all too familiar outcome.

redneck joe, yes, I can tell you between the back yard, at least directly out side the shop's garage door, and of course the four corners of my shop, there has to be a huge build up of items sent flying from compressed air. One day I will clean the entire shop up and find parts I long since replaced and forgotten about I'm sure.

redneck, I think Murphy's law has something to do with that as well. Look around your shop or yard and pick out the absolute least likely place you ever want to search through and that IS the place a flying part will go. Amazing how that works. :facepalm:
