I am running a 23pitch ss prop and i am finding that i have to keep disengaging forward gear when mooring as the boat seems to travel fast even on tick over, would like the boat to just crawl at a slow speed if possible. Any help appreciated.

Re: going too fast on tickover.......

That seems like an awful lot of prop for a 4 cylinder, what is your wide open throttle rpm's.
If they are to low, you may be overloading your engine big time which will cost you an engine.
Overpropping would also cause you to go faster at idle, but make it slower getting on plane.
You should be around 44 to 4800 rpm's at WOT and have an idle rpm of 65 to 700 rpm.
What are you idleing at now???
That could be part of your clicking while shifting problem.
Can I also assume you don't have the electric shift? You never said in your other post.

I dont think i have the electric shift but will check at the weekend, I cannot get it to idle lower than around 800 in neuteral as this is as far as the idle screw will go, as for wot if i remember correctly it was around 4500rpm.

Disconnect the throttle cable and adjust the idle down to the proper rpm, then adjust the cable barrel to allow light tension to the idle possition.
