Not sure how many if any watched last season... but it starts again in a new claim this friday on Discovery. I will be watching and maybe their luck turns around this season now that they have some experience.

I hope I still have the channel as Directv is planning on dropping several channels on November 1, including Discovery, but that will be another topic, (hopefully not!!)

I will be...

I'm just worried they will butcher the show by too much cut and pasting of clips.

I don't watch a whole lot of tv but this was one I stuck with all the way through.

Unfortunately, last year I saw a bunch of overly optimistic guys on a very expensive and frustrating camping trip.

I hope they make some money this year, long way to go though.

I watched the whole series last year too. There's something oddly addictive about it, maybe it's that dream we all have of striking gold. Plus it's fun to watch the old man and his kid go at it.

as if they could hear me.

I'm with ya Bubba. I gave them all sorts of advice and they didn't listen to a word I said.

Course...

I've never mined for gold nor have I run an excavator so I guess I don't blame them :D

I watched the off seeason show on the web site. The Klondike claim is out. No water permit. They are back at Porcupine creek.

I thought Fred snookered Porcupine Creek away from them? As far as the crew listening, they don't listen to each other and they don't listen to me either. I always wondered why they didn't core sample to pinpoint where to dig. Of course the large rocks/boulders make coring difficult.

Thats the problem with placer gold mining in the north, there is ton of overburden that needs to be dealt with before you get down to the gold bearing material, as well as errosion from the run of the rivers

It is not 50.000 years ago or 100.000 years ago that the gold was plentifully released from the surrounding mountains, but millions of years ago, and since then there has been a number of glacial events that have covered and scraped over the big pay dirt.

(some of the best places to find the pay dirt is not at the bottom of the valleys but on the benches that may not have been effected by the waters errosion)

Somethings going on with Fred, but I didn't see the results on the off season show other then he needs to meet in person. They did show them mining again so they worked something out. I think I saw something about the claim being sold maybe.

The owner of that claim will come out way ahead at his age to sell the claim once it shows that there is substantial amounts of gold there. I'm sure they only have a lease for one season.

I love that show but what a bunch of idiots - They need to just sit back ad look at what the next step will be and stop worring about building mega-cabins or bringing their families up to visit.

I loved it when they had to take the excavator across that river because the bridge would not hold it so dumb or dumber (I can't remember which one) take a friggin ATV ahead of the 50 ton machine to check the water depth. The excavator has a 50' boom on the end that I would think he could check the depth with. :(

That fat loser Todd should be tied to a tree and left for the bears !!! He forgot to make a lease payment DUH!!! .. I see he forgot to mention that to his crew that it was his fault before he talked em all into sticking with his dumb arse. That show is addicting, I can see how finding a few chunks of gold would give ya gold fever. Good show IMHO..

Well Fred did snooker the crew, but Todd showed his lack of business acumen by losing the lease because he he didn't read the lease contract. Surprise, surprise. Two good things in the show tonight; Harness seems to be in much better health and Dakota Fred isn't buried at the bottom of the Glory Hole, so no arrests.

I wonder if tonight's drama was merely a combination Todd's bone headed move and Fred's greed,,, or something cooked up by the TV production company

Seems really odd to me that the claim owner wouldn't let them know the claim was being sold out from under them, or that they wouldn't have contacted the claim owner before heading up there last spring....

Good points, It is kinda suspicious , isnt it ? The previews seem to indicate that the Porcupine claim is going to revisited by Todd and his crew, revenge etc..

Re: Gold Rush starts this Friday!

I would have thought Todds dad would have taken the 400 and diverted the stream right into the Glory Hole or used some explosives to collapse it. That is the main reason why I think Fred wanted to take the claim over since all the hard work has been done to get to bedrock. I agree that Todd should have been in contact with Earl before even getting ready to go.

A bit of my thoughts has been that maybe the producer may have something to do with throwing some major drama into the show. That would be just as low handed as Fred.
