Will a high dollar cover really keep your boat dry from the winter and rain? Sunbrella or Hurrican or what....? I am in Dallas so I dont get any snow just the rain. I was thinking of the King Canopy option, but my city wont allow it. So whats my next best option of keeping my New seats dry over the winter?

Re: Good Boat Cover

I spent the big bucks on my seats too. Although I have a cover on my boat, I removed my seats til I was confident that it actually did block rain and nasty weather. It seems to do the job, and I have since put the seats back in.

Unless you get a hurricane or something it should do the job fine. Just make sure its tied down well. My cover is an inexpensive one with a 3 year warranty. Worst case scenario is I replace it every year or so. They offer covers with 4 and 5 year warranties as well. So far its doing great and shows no signs of problems. The elastic edge really keeps it on snug and allows plenty of room for center consoles.

By the way, its made in Dallas!

DMC manufacturing company. Dallas manufacturing Company, of course.

Even an inexpensive cover will keep your boat dry, if it is treated properly. You do have to re-waterproof them every once in a while. I would guess in Texas if you left you boat outside all of the time, once per year minimum on treating the cover.

Re: Good Boat Cover

I built a "saw horse" frame from 1x4 that sits in the boat. It extends from the windshield to within a foot or so of the motor. A large tarp is draped over it and attached to the trailer frame with bungie cords. Through rain, ice and snow, nothing got inside last winter.

It also makes it easy to get in if needed, just disconnect one or two bungies and lift the tarp back. I actually use a tarp that is twice as large as needed, then folded it in half so it is double thickness. It only extendes 3 or 4 inches past the gunnels on the sides, but with the bungie holding it down, the tarp is always pulled tight. Ice, snow and rain just slide off.

Good luck choosing a cover, let us know what you decide on.

Mark.

Almost any off the shelf cover will work as long as you keep it waterproofed and don't allow water to pool and remain on cover.

If your only going to use it for storage at home just go to wal-mart and buy a tarp big enough to cover your boat and a bunch of bungie cords to secure to trailer.Won't look as nice as a custom cover, but will you a lot more money for beer.

Jim

Re: Good Boat Cover

Last winter I spent about 1500.00 on replacing the floor and the seats, so I know I will regret not spending the money on a good cover. I am planning on redoing the cuddy this winter so I think I will just bite the bullet and go with the Sunbrella. Thanks for the input.
