Hi. I have a new to me, 2001 Regal 2460 Commadore. It has a C-Charger Series 2000 15 amp on board charger. I was wondering if anyone has any input or feedback on this kind of charger?? I plugged in my shore power and turned the charger on at the breaker panel. The charger meter was maxxed at 15 amps. So, I'm sure the batteries were low. After about 5 minutes, it sounded like my #1 battery was already boiling! So, to be safe, I pulled both batteries and checked the voltage. The one that was boiling was at 11.6 volts.(pretty dead!) The other was 12.3. So I just slow charged the low one on my house charger, in the shop. My short question for a long story is..... I'm scrapping the battery thats about shot. #1, because its a couple years old. #2 because the boat has TWO starting/cranking batteries, and only needs one. #3 the other battery thats good can be used for the starting battery on #1 switch. I'm using a Blue top optima dual purpose starting-deep cycle battery on #2 positon of switch.......... O.K. with the Optima battery being a different type (can't remember what you call it, AGM???), will my C-Charger work ok??? I had a Pro Mariner 20 on my old boat and it was a great charger. I had a different battery set-up, but it kept my batts up great. I'm just not sure how this charger will work. I don't really like the fact that the charger throws 15 amps at a discharged battery. The Optima calls for a 10 amp max input. I know that once you keep them up and don't let them totally die, charging is a little easier on them. But.... I'm not too knowledgable with this stuff either! Thanks for the comments and input!! IF YOU DIDN'T FALL ASLEEP READING THIS
