a guy a know is selling a 1995 300 HP V8 johnson.the outboard is still in the crate and wrapped in plastic it was never used.he is asking $10,000.do you think this is a fare deal?
Whats the motor going for at the dealership? If the delaer is asking 12k for one and they are hard to find then I guess its a good deal. But if the motors are a dime a dozen then no.

well heres the thing the 300 V8 johsnon was build between 1985-1995 i believe.and you can no longer buy it at the dealer.you can no longer buy a johnson period for that matter.so i cant really do your idea but thanks for the input.im just wondering if i should try to work him down a bit?also whats a new merc or yamha 300 V6 going for?
They are awesome outboards, I have a johnson offshore 1 outboard V8, they are collector's items today ... that one is still in wrapping?, I would not think twice ... 10k is absolutely nothing for that motor if it is still in plastic ....

sitting 12 years you are going to have to the the awaking a sleeping outboard on it. impeller before you even turn it over, probably a lot of rubber hose to replace. the it has to go thru break in.
i just employed out my bank accounts and bought it.got a bunch of men and just lifted it onto the back of my truck.now i have it in my garage.i cant decide if i want to awake the sleeping giant and listen to it roar to life.or should i let it sleep and keep it in mint perfect unused condition.i just don't know.....
i know i really want to but i just dont know.if i did try it out it would be going on a 2007 20 foot sea hunt.the transom should hold if its rated for a 200 4 stroke.also waht size fuel line would this need?would it use the 3/8 the same as the V6's.
If I were you, I would start a new thread in the Evinrude/ Johnson boards on how best to rig this outboard (fuel lines, etc.). Personally, I think you got a fantstic deal on a legendary outboard. I would love to see pictures! Make sure you have a hull that can handle it. Not only from a weight perspective, but from the torque that it will produce. I am very excited to hear how you make out...
.....yeah, make sure the transom can handle that motor...but more importantly: make sure your insurance can handle the motor.
If you take it out and it snaps off the transom...damages the boat...or sinks or whatever and your insurance company knows or finds out yours boats maximum rating was less then 300hp youre on your own....10k...your tab.
Thats an expensive day.
Check it out or have is reinforced or ask some boat rep first or something along those line....c.y.a.
With that out the way it should be a extremely smokin' motor!!
good luck
