I would like to add electric brakes to my single axle boat trailer. Can you guys recommend a good quality kit? The boat and trailer weigh about 2500lbs. Thanks.

Yes. Dexter hubs, Dexter brake assemblies. When ordering/buying the assemblies, remember to get 1 right and 1 left.

Wiring makes a quality difference as well. For electric brakes, recommend thick 10 gauge wiring and wire to each wheel hub (re: STAR design), instead of wiring to one hub and going across the axle to the other hub (re: traditional linear design).

Make sure the axle has the brake mounting plate. Without it you cannot install brakes (electric or hydraulic).

I did a star config and a cross wire at each of my axles. It offers the most even braking and redundancy in case of a wire problem. It also offers the least possible resistance to each brake for a given wire size.

How well do drum brakes hold up in salt water? Would not disc brakes be better?
