I would like to pick up a couple of extra keys for my Evinrude/Johnson ignition, I have the series and number of the key, but have never looked for one, looking for suggestion on where to pick them up?

Thanks.

Can't you have your local hardware store cut you a spare?

Most hardware stores won't cut boat keys because they are a key that has a series number and then a key number, this particular series is a 73 series pistol grip key. Johnson/Evinrude never made the blanks available on the market.

A new ignition switch can be had for under $20 then you can have as many keys as you would like.

Unless you have a binnacle with the key switch in the housing, that might be tricky.

Just punch in Johnson or Evinrude ignition key in search icon on ....wait for it......Ebay and you will no doubt find what your looking for. Or Google it. You may even put the key number in to narrow down searching through 1800 + listings.

Maybe it's a local thing. I literally just had 2 copies made for my 60 1991 Evinrude.

call a johny-rude dealer then and have them send you keys. there are only about 15 key cuts for johny-rudes. just give them the number or take a pic

No, the pistol grip key does not fit in their machines an they can't get the blanks for it. I have already tried to get a key locally and been to basically every shop around here that makes keys. You would think they would be easy to find around here, I live just a few miles from one of the biggest lakes west of the Mississippi as well as many others, boating is quite popular round here!

I would not have asked the question, unless I already tried locally! Geeze!

The key is a series 73-8 pistol grip key and I ordered some this morning!

If you really want to have fun, tried to get a Ford Chipped key around here!

Thanks, I tried every where in town, no blanks, and my original didn't fit their machines and your key is very different than the 1973 key.

Been doing boats for over 30 years now and I don't normally asked a question until I run into a situation I can't solve locally.

I have always ran mercury engines, this is the first evinrude I have had that runs.

No reason to get feelings hurt.
