Best documentation I've found is on sterndrives.com for replacing lower shift cable. The Merc books I have don't go into any detail on this subject. Only downside is that it doesn't haven't any pretty pictures. Is there a newer book out there somewhere that goes into detail?

Also. Most documentation I followed on adjusting lower shift cable included also removing the remote control cable. Putting drive in forward and then adjusting remote control cable into it fits on control plate. Although my remote control cable didn't seem to have any adjusts on the end closest to control plate. Is there somewhere is it needs to be adjusted (such as inside in the remote control or something)?

Re: Good resource for replacing shift cable

So i found the adjustment on the upper cable (for remote cobtrols). However its not the brass barrel type. It appears to adjust with a plastic peace on end of cable. Do i still need to twist it four turns in a particular dirrection? I did everything but the four turns at the end. Although reverse started working for me on muffs it died as soon as i put it in reverse in water tonight. It seems to start in nuetral for me everytime unless i shift it. Then once it dies it wont star back up again for another couple of hours.

When it dies, stop doing anything (including moving the shift control) and have a look at the interrupt switch. If it has been 'tripped', then you have other problems.
