Hi, I am here trying to see if anybody has the primer for a GoodYear 3 hp. I recently got this little motor and the primer knob was bent, and when I went to straighten it out it broke in half, I almost had it started, but then this happened, and now it doesnt even sound like it wants to start. I'm getting good spark, I"m thinking I might have flooded it also, I will try to start it again today. Please let me know if you have a primer for sale and how much. Im not expecting to pay more then 10 dollars for this little piece. Thanks

all the primer knob does is sink the float. If you don't have a lower cowl on it you can do that by holding the float needle down for a few seconds.

Re: GoodYear See Bee 3hp/Primer Knob

thanks for the reply commander, but It looks like the needle on the primer shoots right into a little hole on a stem that sits right in the middle of the carburator, this little hole allows gas to enter so it can travel up to the upper part of the carburator, this needle thats part of the primer allows a certain amount of gas to enter. With the needle all the way out of the hole alot of gas shoots up and makes the motor start faster, and when its started the primer is suppose to be turned to the right to start to plug the hole again, and that where a person sets it to their preference. The needle will not turn in and out like it should cause is broken, it will start but turns off cause it sets in their loose and doesnt regulate the gas flow right. You wont happen to have a primer would ya, and I thought this motor was a 3 hp but its a 1 1/2. Sorry for the mistake on that.

There is a pin that sticks up out of the top of the float cover.when you push down on the pin it allows more gas in to prime a cold motor.when you release the pin the float comes up regulating the flow of gas.If the primer lever is broken you can push the pin down with your finger or a screw driver tip.
Only needs 5 seconds no need to hold as you crank. You should be able to adjust the high speed knob. Some times you have to set the needle and then install the knob where it allows enough room to adjust for prime and run.
You can probably get a replacement knob at The Antique Outboard Motor Club www.aomci.org

Not sure, but I think he's saying the needle valve is shot/broken. That's what the primer knob rides on. Either way you can probably find both by posting a wanted ad on the free classifieds at www.aomci.org
