It was late like 1 am and I hear my wifes cats jumping and running towards the computer room . I turn around to see a small black bat fluttering past me going into the next room. I had just let my akita out into the courtyard to wee wee and so I didnt have to wait on her I left the back door cracked so she could come in by herself. She comes in all right and shes after the bat also. I try to think fast and try to find the broom and as I do the bat flying back and forth heads towards the open door to my wifes bedroom. In horror as to what would happin if it were to land on her I ran towards the room with no broom hoping to shut the door before it went in. Too late but just then it flew out and I guess it was tired of its visit and then flew back out the back door. The thought of what happined when a small snake came into our bed room when first married and I said "honey dont get up theres a snake on the floor" came back but I swated it with a broom no big deal........not to me I love most animals but gezzzz. I live in the city

Everytime i hear a story about bats and them being indoors i think of John Candy in the movie The Great Outdoors, Now that was comedy....:D

I had a bat in the house one time at night, its funny how a little flying rat can make you freak out....

its weird you have these problems in the city.

Bats are really cool critters. We make an effort to attract them to The Hideout.

They eat bazillions of unpleasant bugs.

Problem is that they are a vector for rabies, so one should never handle a wild one.

Had one come down my chimney once. I put on gloves and carefully plucked it out of the fireplace and released it outdoors. It made no attempt to bite me.

Whewww I thought we were going to read that you got arrested for chasing the wife with a broom!!!

I know there are bats in the attic from the vents and like JB said they are good for the insects..... but grabbing the wife's broom.... her primary choice of transportation!!

I bet the cat would have dispatched the bat.

Yep that was hilarious :D.

I recall "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy (R.I.P), loved nearly all his movies. For the American chopper fans on the Discovery channel, recall when Vinny had to go home on his lunch break to remove a bat from his house, :D what a break.

Re: Got a little wild tonight

We get a group of bats that spends the days tucked into the eave of my house outside periodically throughout the summer. Its weird they are there for 3 or 4 days at a time and then must move to somebody else's house for a few days and then back to ours. They are right out in plain site too. Hard to see them because of the shadows but they are pretty exposed. We enjoy kicking back with a drink at dusk and watching them launch for about 10 minutes 1 and 2 at a time. I always know they are there by the bat droppings in the walk next to the driveway. Never new bat poop looked like little black pellets .
