I recently came across this forum will looking for
solutions to getting my old Johnson outboard running. This is a great forum for sharing info, wish I had found it a year and a half ago when I started this project.

Seems to me that anyone who has invested the time, money, effort and sacrifice etc... to get an old boat in the water will naturally want to share the experiance with other people, and this looks like the best place on the whole internet to display your efforts for all the world to see.

There are also many members who greatly contribute to the overall success of many projects. A number of people in this forum contributed to my "Never Ending Boat Project". If you have invested a bit of your time sharing your knowledge and experience to further my efforts, then "my project" is also a little bit "your project". Thanks for the help!
Here's the result of your help and advise, and a lot of effort and determination.

My 1971 Caravelle with 1971 Johnson 60HP. Told my wife it was finished, but I was thinking about ...
Re: Got a Picture of Your Rebuilt Boat

Stringbox, you did a fine job on your boat. I know the feeling of the project that never seems to end. Mine has finished for this year. Next year will be more seating in the rear, cushions in the cabin, etc. A man only has so much ca$h!!!

I started my project last July and finished mid July of this year. Of course, living in the north, my project had to be put away from October until April. I figure that it took approx. 5 months to finish mine.

Haha! I just read your post and saw the picture. Didn't see the "Before" in the picture first. I thougt that finnish isn't that important. If the engine now works fine and the boat floats it could have been a project. THEN I scrolled down... Gee! Thats some improvement. :D Very nice job!

StringBox,
Nice work! What size (height) bimini is that, and what is your boat's length and width?

Re: Got a Picture of Your Rebuilt Boat

OK, first I will give a little history on my project. It is a 1986 16' Bassmaster, with a 1986 115 Mariner motor with a Motorguide Marine Brute 12/24 50# thrust trolling motor. I bought this boat 2 years ago for $500. It needed a lot of TLC. I wish I had taken some photos of the before but I was not thinking.
I had to redo the bottom of the boat for it had been hit on something and had a small hole in it. I fixed it and had the whole boat painted blue/gold. New carpet in boat and all storage holes. New trolling motor, all new wiring, new switches for dash. It needed one more seat for the rear but they don't make that seat anymore and all I have is a butt seat that matches but I am a sit down kinda guy so I don't use it. The Mariner did not need a whole lot as it ran fine, but I did put water pump impeller, lower unit gears and new prop. Had compression check done on motor by mariner tech and it was all in spec's. Had all carbs rebuilt, and new plugs put in. Now I have a almost new boat for under $2000. It may not be the fastest on the water but it is alright for me and the wifey pooh. She goes to beating on me anyway if I get to trimming that motor up and the nose raises any at all. I have got some pics here http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/lewwr_1999/lst?.dir=/BOAT&.view=t if you all want to look.

Re: Got a Picture of Your Rebuilt Boat

Spent two years finding parts and doing the rebuild. I (well the wife)have also added two children to our family in the last 2 years so time is short. With support from the greatest wife in the world, its done and works good. All that's left is seats, new carb, fix the dist, new speedo broke.................................Did I say I was done??? Check it out http://photos.yahoo.com/f_inscreenname Tell me if you have ever seen one before. Its a 1972 John Allmand/Super Nova 19' with a Mopar Volvo combo.

Hello Stringbox, I know I am replying to an old post... I have the identical boat to yours.
Would be interested in picking your brains a little, as there is some hardware and other items missing from my boat that I am trying to locate.
Nice boat.

Craig Rogers

StringBox , Just wondering what (how) did you use to dress up the bow front seats. It looks good and I think it's a great idea to do on mine instead of the whole cushion thing.

Re: Got a Picture of Your Rebuilt Boat

StringBox Great job on that Caravelle, it looks like the Great American BYB (back yard boat), the one that is sad, neglected and looks like hell, just waiting for the makeover that puts her on even ground with all those giant dollar new boats, which dont look a nickle better (well, maybe a little better, those whopper honda 4 strokes sure look sweet, but 16 grand for a MOTOR? sheesh!

Hey f in ... dammn, HOT boat there, that thing looks fast sitting still, lol, I guess for you MOPAR means Marine Old Parts Are Rare, and rare means BIG BUCKS, lol, but we know this ... I remember you posting some time back about how things werent as they were supposed to be, but you dove in anyway, spent a ton of bucks for a bellhousing (?) but I bet yer happy now

Rick, that is a classic looking boat, I like it best of all, roomy, deep, and even if you do manage to poke that sizeable bow into a wave, that looks like a sturdy windshield (good motor choice BTW)

Bill H, I swear Ive seen that boat in black, called the BatBoat, maybe with bigger fins in the back, but that one is a conversation starter if ever I saw one, a real show off sorta boat, lol

Hey bubbakat, cmon buddy, show off those V4 engines, as sharp as yer delta is coming out, they cant be all that bad!

Djohns, no NEW project in the wings? or an idea of what you might tackle next? If yer bored, you can keep yer skills sharp on the Starcraft, lol

Great work guys!!!

:D :D :D :D

Ray,
Well the only other one I can find like it was on a museum website and it was located in Canada. Not even sure if it is still in use. So I may have the only one that will still be in use.
