k this is a lame question but I need to know. I have a 13' 7" coverd bow fiberglass boat that I don't know the weight of. I have a 1962 40 hp Johnson on it. I was able to hit 28 mph according to my GPS before I suffered an ignition problem. My question is, is this a good speed for this boat/motor combo? it's my first boat and I'm unsure if it is good? I want to pull a tube and maybe a water skier. Think it'll do it?

A good runnin 40 be it a 1962 or 2006 is plenty for what you want to do. Should be a fun rig.

Seems pretty good, should have no problem pulling a tube. Remember that the little tubes pull a lot less than the big tubes. As for pulling a skier, depends on the skiers ability and size. Best way to pull skiers is to keep the boat lite, limit the people in the boat to the driver and the spotter only.

You're probably going to want a low pitched prop. Do you know your WOT RPMs?

Back in the day, I had a 14' fibreglass with a 40 HP Johnson on it, same vintage. That was the typical speed for my boat with 2 people. It still pulled 2 skiers out of the water, as tubes weren't around then. I'd say that your rig is performing as expected.
