I've got a '57 fast twin 18 evinrude, all the motors around this size that I have seen have some way to lock the motor in the up position while fishing ,even the old Ted Williams motor I have has a pin that you slide in to hold the motor up out of the way. But on this 18 hp evinrude I can't find anything on the motor that will hold it up out of the water while I 'm fishing. Any ideas?

Thanks

Ken.... Pertaining to small OMC horsepower engines of years past, they did not have what is commonly know as a trailering lock. They had instead what is known as friction washers or bearings that are located within the tilt bolt assy (carriage head on one eng, nut on the other). To keep the engine in a tilt position, it is a matter of tightening that bolt/nut a little at a time until the friction is enough to keep the engine in that raised position.

Ken..... No need to deal with it. Simply tighten the nut and the engine will stay put in whatever tilted position you put it in. You just won't be able to run it while in that position.
