So I go my gauges yesterday and got them mostly installed today. I put it in another thread I had started in the electronics forum and here is the link:

I do have a question regarding the tach. When I first hooked up the tach it didn't do anything. I ended up switching the signal wire to the other rectifier pole. So my question is do the two wires coming from the stator have their own circuit in relation to ground. I had though that the two wires were one circuit but one leg has ac voltage and the other does not. I'm thinking My stator is half working. Is my assumption correct?

I would test the recitifer first , as it might have that one side of it blowed out to ground or open and will cause trouble as you state. It will not charge the battery as it should neither. A search on here should get you threads as how to test the recitifer. If you disconect both yellow wires and read for ohms accrose them you should see a short I belive, but not positive as I have not had to test a stator as such lately. Your tach should work on eather one of the yellow wires, and not just one. Carlhome or Laddies might chime in and TheY should know for sure about testing the stator and recitifer if we are lucky.

Thanks for the reality check oldman. After I read you post, the light bulb went off and I said to myself "why didn't i think of that?", Anyway, I'm betting that the rectifier is bad as they seem to go out much more often than the stator. Sure will save me some money if that's the case.

After some testing I found that the faulty signal was following the rectifier leads instead of the stator lead. Thanks again. Saves me about $120 bucks.
