A local shop rebuilt it for $100.70 w/a year warranty.

I figured it was not to bad of a deal, since new pumps are about 250-300..

Well anyways, When I was taking it off the boat someone has already done it and one of the fittings was stripped out on the pump, luckly my father works at a machine shop, he heli-coiled it, put it on the boat and man, good as new.

Motor goes up and down no problems now. :D:D

ugh - please other force owners please don't helicoil your pump ports. The bottom of your port needs to retain the nipple shape to make good seal. There is also the issue of splitting the aluminum and the ongoing concern of making the SS to aluminum galvanic reaction even more troublesome than it already is. Please don't heli-coil your pump. Of equal significance is that you really, really need to keep metal flakes out of your system. If you want to fix your threads at home then go to NAPA auto and buy a 1/8" MPT to 3/16" inverted flare adapter.

sorry, but you were giving people really bad ideas. You've got to be careful what you say in front of a DIY crowd. Most people don't have a machine shop and they would tear up the base of the port with their helicoil tools. Then the hole would be too big to fix without cracking the aluminum casting.

newbie, really glad your tilt/trim unit works well and i hope you get good long service from it.

their are a few guys here that i really pay attention to. rritt is one, think he's an engineer..i've read hundreds of posts by several guys that know as much about these systems as the designers! the best part, their knowledge & information is FREE! i'm not trying to defend anyone...really, but i've been here a few years & really trust what some of these guys say!

you would be surprised at the skill-set some have here...they probably forgot way more than i'll ever learn.

welcome & happy boating

Im not saying he is wrong at all, they did tell me what could happened if something went wrong.

I do agree they can crack the aluminum with out a doubt.
