I agree there Mellow.

Why did they need an ad campaign?

What, were they afraid that no one would use the new $20 bill?

Me personally, as long as it says "20 dollars" and "In God We Trust", I'll spend it!

What a waste of tax dollars!

Kenny

I just held one of those new $20's yesterday that my wife showed me.I guess it's all in the name of counterfeit protection. Now someone needs to address ,instead of just acknowledging all of the insurance and credit card fraud.

I can understand "why" they changed it...
but did they really need an ad campaign?
how stupid do they think we are???
in addition: did you know it costs the mint more
than 1c ea. to make a penny?

It is entirely possible that the gov't did not want another disaster like the Sacagawea dollar coin. This was/is a nightmare. People were afraid at first it wasn't real even after a limited advertising campaign and still refuse to use them even if it saves money over the long run.
Humans are scared of anything that is new/different. As a whole, we like the status quo.
I guess this is a better way to spend money then some gov't programs. And as for people not wanting to use them, I will be glad to exchange an old ten dollar bill for any new twenties that you don't like.
as long as it says "20 dollars" and "In God We Trust"
Not so worried about the twenty part as long as it has "In God We Trust".

I was in Ghana when they introduced new currency and saw the nightmare of what can happened when people don't know what is coming. Many counterfiets that didn't even look close, but all people knew that new money was coming - so this must be it. Didn't take long to stop most of that, but would have been cheaper for the gov and the people if there had been a little preventative advertising before hand.

and if you think it looks different try using it in a vending or change machine, ;)
By the way, it wasn't that many years ago when the current 20 was redesigned, must be the same genuises who developed the Susan B. and the Native American dollar coin, both total flops. Reminds me of the gas ration coupons the Gov printed during the 1970's, seems the likeness of olde george was the same as on the $1 bill, and sure enough they worked in vending or change machines, only problem is they were only worth about a third of a buck, paid off better than a slot machine. ;)

32 milllion is a lot of dollars for peasants like you and I.However,in the large scheme of things it's just a spit in the bucket.Consider how many millions that beer manufacturers spend to advertise their products during something as short term as a Superbowl game.Granted they are a private owned entity, yet the cost of this advertising is still passed on to Joe consumer.
