I have a Furuno GP1650W conected to a FCV582 crt and the only data on the NAV mode is the temp, no GPS data is transferring to finder. I'm bench testing this my NMEA cable is 2 pigtails a 6pin & 4pin connected with twist on connectors, 4 wires in both ptails connected color to color. In the system menu on the finder theres a "NAV DATA DSP: OFF L/L R/B CSE its set on L/L.

In the finder manual it says make sure temp/speed is connected I have the tducer connected so i'm getting temp, theres another port on back of finder specifically for temp/speed 6 pin.

Still learning Furuno 1st yr...transfering from Lowrance.

In interconnecting two NMEA-0183 devices, it is unheard of that the interconnection will be done "color-to-color." My inference is this connection is likely the cause of your problem.

I have described a simple method to follow to make proper interconnection of two NMEA-0183 devices. If you follow the method, you will be able to correctly configure the wired interface of the two devices with NMEA-0183 signals. You can find the method described at

GUIDE TO NMEA-0183 CONNECTIONS
continuousWave: Whaler: Reference: NMEA-0183 Interconnection Guide

This should remedy your problem.

NMEA connections for the 582L: Pins 1&2 are transmit. Pin 3&4 are receive. pin 6 is shield. No wire colors given on schematic.

The GP has the same pinouts. They gave the wire colors P1= wht. P2 = blk, Pin 3=Yel, P 4=grn. I'm guessing wht to yel or blk to grn

Ok. The 6 pin connector is used to connect a standalone temp/paddle wheel. I troll a lot and use a paddlewheeel to give me speed over water.

I'm guessing wht to yel or blk to green.

That worked.

Thank you !

Yes, I was sure that connecting the NMEA-0183 interface using a color-to-color method was the root cause of you problem.

You should learn the method. Then you can solve this problem yourself when it comes up again.
