GPS display visibility

I was checking out some GPS handheld units for future purchase and was concerned about the visibility of the displays especially in bright sunlight or overcast days. Do the color displays work better, or are the regular black/white displays adequate? Paying the extra bucks for the color doesn't seem smart if the visibility is about the same. Any help from those who have handheld units would be appreciated, expecially the Garmin 76 and 176.

Re: GPS display visibility

Just acquired a Magellan Meridian. Extremely pleased with visability, useabilty and sensitivity. Found it to be much more useable indoors and under cover than the Garmin Etrek. Bought new on Ebay for $150.... :)

Re: GPS display visibility

I have no problem with a Garmin GPS12.Its not a mapping gps so all I have displayed are waypoints, text, and tracklog.

Re: GPS display visibility

Thanks for all the responses. I may try to borrow a handheld unit and check out the visibility. Color is nice, but sure is costly.
