Re: gps handheld

depends on the unit. If you are buying a map reading unit it will have chips you can buy for area. If you are buying a unit (like my Magellen tracker) that has no map feature, and only give you the numbers and directions tthen it does not matter. It will work for you like it does for me.

The accurate numbers change though (ie. it will be within 30 feet or 100 yards depending on how the USA feels at the time. We will alter the numbers worldwide so that someone can't get a target fix on us. I would rather imagine that on July 4 you will not know where the heck you are.

Sorry to ramble.

Yup. There are national versions. Both relating to languages and local geography. The MAP-devices can be loaded with maps from any part of the world - you just normally get a deal on a set that includes your own area.

Devices sold in UK doesn't include a map for Scandinavia. Normally. And so on.

A device that reads satellite signals and calculates all info based on it will work all over.

Remember that import tax/customs, handling fee and VAT on the whole amount applies when the parcel is entering EU. :(
