Hi,it says in the manual for my Lowrance GPS that it should be wired via a switch to prevent corrosion of the cables when boat is on a mooring. If I am removing the GPS after every boat trip,I do not see the point. Does anyone agree or have any opinions on this?

Without a switch there will still be 12V on the connector whether the GPS is connected to it or not, and the connector will be exposed to the environment.

Garmin knows what they are doing. Use a switch.
