I currently have a '78 20' Grady white W/A and want to move up to a 24'. I like the 240 Offshore because it would be easier to trailer being that the beam is still around 8'. I would stay with the I/O because I want a closed transom and I think the fuel efficiency is better with the I/O compared to the outboards. I have become quite familiar with the Mercruiser set-up during my current project.

Does anybody have any opinions on these boats? I am probably going to look for another "project boat" to keep the $$ down, and I kinda like it!

I had a 79 24' W/A, outboard, that I thought was a pretty good boat. Solid boat. Acres of cockpit space. The only downside was it would pound when running in a good sea. But considering you're looking for an I/O, I would expect it to run better with the added weight.
Grady went to a more deeper V hull sometime in the late 80's. I'd definitely recommend trim tabs.
Bottom line, you can't go wrong with a Grady.

You would be better off with an outboard and a bracket if you want the closed transom and the bracket will make a 22’ perform like a 24’ in most instances. I had an I/O on my first one and an outboard on my current Grady and I'll never go back to an I/O again. The I/O takes up too much cockpit space, robs performance due to the weight, and it's a apin to drain the block every time when fishing in the winter un less you have FWC.
