Re: Grease fittings
There are two grease fittings on the tilt trunions, behind the rubber snubbers on either side of the drive. Those need to be pried off when in the drive is in the down position. They simply snap over two screw heads that are on the each of the trunion caps. I like to put a little silicone grease in each one of the bumper holes that snap over the screw heads when reinstalling. It keeps the screw heads from chewing up the holes in the rubber caps.
The other grease fitting on the outside of the boat is facing down, underneath the steering gear where it is located at the rear of the intermediate housing. Where as you might access the trunion fittings while in the water, good luck with the outside steering gear fitting. You do scuba?
The only other fitting is tight to get to. It is on the intermediate housing, inside the boat, at the forward end of the steering shaft that your TrueCourse steering drum rides on. You access it parallel to the floor of the boat, a few inches forward of the inside of the transom. It is between the forward side of the steering drum and the intermediate housing where the shaft terminates.
Although those are both important fittings for ease of steering, especially if your boat sits in the water all the time, they are not the only potential cause of tight steering. The inside of your double cable way steering cable may need to be lubed. That happened to my 1975 20 footer and I really had to strong arm the steering wheel in turns.
