The motor becomes very hard to start after sitting for 3 months.
It dies at idle even it agrees to start.

After a series of tests, I found out the sparks are on and off randomly.
When I opened the distributor cap, found out a lot grease covering some of the pins. The grease can be seen even from outside of cap.
I cleaned them up and the spark test seems to be good for now.

But I am still concerned that if this is the cause of the loss of sparks. Because I had a bad coil before, it tested good but died in the middle of bay. But when I took it home and tested it, it still worked. It took me quite an effort to figure out it was the coil.

Motor is 1977 mercury inline 115.

Thanks.
