I have a 5hp Gamefisher that I just purchased. The model Number is 217-586612. I have the owners manual for this unit. This motor does not have a drain plug for the lower unit. It has a bottom plate with four screws and a gasket. There is a fill hole and a vent hole up further in their normal position. When I removed the lower plate to change the oil it was full of heavy black grease. The manual calls for sea 90. My question is why the heavy grease and should I clean it out and replace it with sea 90. Any information would be appreciated.

calabrej50

I know this sounds obvious, but if that's what the Manual calls for, then that's exactly what I would do. clean it out and refill with proper lube. Good Luck,
