am I going to have a problem if I grease my Gimble bearing with the boat in the water? It's a 89 bravo one.

No not really unless the zerk fitting is under water then it might be a challenge. Also if the bearing has been replaced recently it may be a sealed bearing that won't take grease.

Best to do all your grease/oil yearly maintenance all at once on a schedule with pulling the drive to grease the u-joints, greasing spline, driveshaft, prop shaft, hinges and gimbal bearing.

Hopefully this greasing of the gimbal bearing thought in the mid-season isn't caused by it growling at you.

Thanks for the response. It is under water so I was worried about introducing water into the bearing. Not growling but sounds funny from engine compartment, can't really tell what's causing it.

You should be OK, IF you make sure the grease in the end of the grease gun completely fills the end (or protrudes a little) so that grease is forced out when it contacts the zerk.

Shoot some spline grease too, there's a zerk for it behind the coupler, I can get to mine from the port side.

Yeah grease it up best you can and inspect the bilge for stuff that shouldn't be there.
