Grinding noise when turning Minnkota

I have a Minn Kota 80pd/ap trolling motor that makes a grinding noise when turning. It sounds like it's coming from the drive housing. Could it be the motor-drive or do I need to replace the whole drive housing? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Are you saying that the noise is coming from the head unit or the motor housing (the foot section). If the motor housing, it could either be the bearings and/or the bushes are gone. If the noise is coming from the head unit. it may need bearings replaced on the shaft section. JMHO!

Sorry about the late response, and thanks for responding. This is a link to the schematic of trolling motor, the noise is coming from part 37. I'm wondering if it's the motor, part 43, or is it parts 39-42?
