1998 evinrude 60 hp. Short shaft.

2 fails!!

Ok I just got the boat, first thing is waterpump. I adjusted the shift shade to spect but it grinds more than it should. Do I readjust the shaft or the cable?

And now my other problem. It just sputters water not a solid stream. It's not the muffs there is plenty of water and I tried 2 pairs, both work on other motors fine.

I guess I could have the key in backwards. I was looking at the selhoc manual and it seemed to tell me to put it backwards of the way I would of put it so there is a chance it's backwards.

Taking this thing back apart. Nothing is going right on this motor so far!! I was trying to assemble it first with the rod 180? from correct at first...dang it.

Help me and suggestions.

I'm tearing this thing back down now.

Are you shifting the proper way with a quick motion ?---Or are you easing it into gear ?

Proper way pulling it down. This is shifting out of water because I can't just drag this boat t the lake to test it. I'm not punching it like I'm punching out a criminal but not easeing into gear either.

Any thoughts on the sputter? Key was on right way fins facing right way.

The old impellor looks like it was dry run and melted in the outlet holes in the housing. And it also had very weak flow from a severely worn impellor, but was not over heating and had a very weak stream but did not sputter like it does now???

I had to walk away from this thing cause I was so frustrated.

This is not the first impellor either I'm just not having luck. Done a 150GT and a late 60s 25hp rude as well.
