I'd like to do a compression test on my 93 Johnson 90 hp CV two stroke. I have the Seloc Manual and it sais to ground the plug wires. How do I go about doing this? Is there a special tool I need? Thanks

Re: grounding plugs

Nothing very special. Some jumper wires with alligator clips on both ends will work nicely.

If you just pull the lanyard off your kill switch it will prevent sparking and you don't even need to ground them.

Or you can just leave the key OFF and use a jumper or remote starter switch at your solenoid to turn the engine over.

Using a jumper or remote starter switch at your solenoid to turn the engine over is the safest bet because "some" kill switches will still allow the engine to start or enable spark to the plugs even after the lanyard has been pulled.

Re: grounding plugs

Thanks for the tips. I'm paranoid so i'm going to jumper the wires and pull the kill switch. When you guys say use a remote starter how do I wire it to the solenoid? Last time I saw a remote starter it had three wires? Not sure. Thanks

Re: grounding plugs

A remote starter is nothing but a momentary push button switch. You connect it (2 wires) between the battery cable post on the solenoid, to the small ungrounded post. Heck, you don't even need the fancy remote starter button. Back to the jumper with alligator clips. Clip it to one of the places just mentioned and touch it to the other one. That's all I've ever done, I don't even own one of the fancy buttons.
