It may sound stupid but does anybody think a few months of growth on the bottom of a boat could slow it down enough for it to not plane off? Thanks

How much growth are we talking about here? If it is that bad then you need to do some PMCS.

Re: Growth on the boat

You guys seem to know what your talking about and I'm new to boating so I'd like it if you didnt jump down my throat. The boat is in salt and the sun all day. I've tried every other alternative and $$ to get this boat running for my family and I and I'm out of options. Thanks for the feedback...

Re: Growth on the boat

I dont think anyone here is trying to jump down your throat. They are just giving examples for you to compare by.
A lot depends on size of boat, amount of power, how much load you have on board to name but a few items.
Anything "growing" on your boat will increase drag. The more growth the more drag and that = more to push. Therefore performance will suffer.
As an example my outfit in my signature loses 5mph at WOT with a months growth on it. When I powerwash it we are back to normal. I am not into anti fouling paints as I am never in the dock for more than a few weeks without coming out to go somewhere else. I then powerwash the bottom and off we go.
Please do not take things personally as everyones aim is to help and assist.
If you pull it out please post a photo before you clean it off. I think everyone would be interested to see it. Let us know also how it runs after cleaning.
Good Luck,
Ken.
