Hello iboat friends, this may be the wrong place to post this and if so I am sorry. I am looking for an older gruman sport boat, the ones that look like a canoe that needs to go on a diet. They are the perfect boat for some of the Canadian boat in camping adventures that a friend of mine and I do. Often times we have several hard portages to get to the lake we intend to camp and fish for the week. A canoe is fine but a sport boat is a bit more stable for fishing and handles an outboard much better. The problem is they are almost impossible to find, and often very over priced when you do find one. If anyone here has an old one (needing work is fine!) or knows of one someone might want to get rid of please let me know! I am willing to pay a fair price based on condition.

I did alot of paddling in the big Grumman laker canoes and on the rivers in the north you see quite a few of the "sport boats" they are a real hit with the guys that navigate the big rivers, thats for sure.

Man, that sounds like my kind of adventure. I'm jealous. If you can't find a Sportboat you might consider a folbot or even a couple of kayaks as a possible alternative. BTW, several years ago JB wrote a neat little story about his Sportboat. Check it out when you get a moment. It was a Red Sky At Night piece.

I love those Grummans too. Couldn't afford one new. Couldn't find one used, at the time. I ended up with an Old Town Predator SS150. Check out Old Town's site. It's very comparable to the Grumman. It's a plastic boat, but Old Town makes them practically bulletproof. It can carry a heavier load than the Grumman. One of the three layers in the construction is foam. They are not cheap either, but less than the Grumman. I've got a 4 hp, 4 stroke on mine and it will push me faster than I want to go in a canoe. Your trip sounds like great fun. One day... Good luck with your search, I'll keep an eye out for you too.
