Found an ad for a Grumman jon boat. it's got a decent 25hp Mercury tiller on it. The boat looks pretty cool. trailer boat and motor all seem in decent enough shape. says it's an early 2000 model. He pieced it all together, he didn't buy it as a package. He doesn't know what the model of the boat is and I can't find any info on it. He said it was a prototype and Grumman didn't think there would be much interest so they threw the mold away? Not sure why they'd need a mold since its tin and not fiberglass....but whatever. He says its nice and wide and very stable. He's got it listed as a 14 footer.

does anyone know what model this is? If so, what's the deal with Grumman boats? They any good? I had an old Ebbtide bass boat that I got for free, fixed it up but I sold it this past winter. I wanted a jon boat in the worst way, just a tiller steer with no crap in the way. We do a lot of bowfishing so I want something decently stable. this guy claims the boat can squeeze 4 guys to fish, 3's no problem and 2 guys is perfect. He also claims the boat will do 35-40 with 2 guys with the 25 merc....I dunno about his speed rating but I'm not gonna be in a huge hurry. But I would like the ability to fish the finger lakes in NY with this little boat and I think it'd be OK. Not prefect, but doable.

So does anyone know what model this boat might be or have any info at all about them? Also, what's Grumman's quality like? Good, Bad, Ugly???? pics are below.

Re: Grumman Jon Boat??

Looks like a nice deep and stable jon. Grumman made fine boats. That Merc does look to be approximately 2000 model year. Pretty much everything else the seller said sounds like complete and total BS. If it's fairly priced though, I don't see any real red flags. If the deck is wood it probably needs to be replaced.

the decking is wood. guy said he put it in himself. just by the pics, it looks like it needs to be redone, but in a tinny, that shouldn't take me more than a few hours. Maybe a camo paint job and pimp it out with a CD player and cooler for my beers. I can't over the whole "they threw the mold away". I mean my wife says I broke the mold but I think she's referring to how much of a stud I am. I jsut wish I could get a model or something so I can look up the specs for it. I checked Grummans website and all I found were little deep V's named after each of the finger lakes.....oh well, hopefully I can go take a look at it on Sat. maybe 2 days of work and I'll be on the water :)
