What woul be the proper gauage reading on a merc 3.0 @ idle , my rpms read close to 1000, my oil pressure under 40 probaly at like 25 or 30. my water temp is always between 125 and 150, the hottest I have seen it was just a tad of 150..
do this all soud right, and at what pint should I get alarmed, what is too hot, and how should the oil pressure read?

Thanks,
THomas

BTW the new boat is a wonderfull boat , so glad I listen to you guys and had it checked out, I love the boat, 1990 glastron 17.5' with 3.0 mercruiser, runs great. I will be buying the manual this week, tuesday is pay day.

Re: GUAGE READINGS

Congradulations on the new boat Boaterntexas....

Looks like yer right on there... Temp's maybe a little low but ok, oil pressure's good, and idle might be high (should be 600rpm at idle) but sometimes the gauges are not exactly accurate either..

What is too hot, well, given your current readings I'd say you should be concerned if it goes over 170, and shut her down after anything over 190..

Oil pressure should be no less than 10 psi for every 1000 rpms... 20 psi at idle with engine at operating temp would be comfortable... At WOT (full throttle 4500 rpm) should be at least 50 psi or more...

Good luck and happy boating...

Re: GUAGE READINGS

I'd Think your about where you Should be.....
On a raw-water cooled motor the T-stat Should be 143*.... 150* is pretty Close..... Water Boils at 212*... That's where the Upper-limit Is.....
Consistency is what you want to see.....
