2002 Larson 210 SXI with 5.0 GL VP motor (SX outdrive). Motor running fine on Canyon Lake, TX today until we were backing out of a dock after dinner and about 1500 ft from the marina, we started accelerating and began to hear a beep beep beep beep noise coming from motor. Turned off motor. Tried to crank motor again. It would turn over but would only stay in idle and not allow me to shift in to gear. Oil pressure guage was at 0/low/dead. Temperature was slightly higher than normal, but nothing I would see as concerning. Dip stick showed level was above the safe zone. Let boat rest and tried to crank and put motor in to gear a few more times with no luck. What could be the problem? Could it be the oil pump? I found it odd

Notes: had my oil and oil filter changed two months ago by my mechanic. This was our second time on the water since then. The oil on the dip stick did not appear to be very golden in color and was above the safe line (see image attached). Full synthetic oil was used.

How high was the oil?
Does the oil smell of gas?

Check the connection for the wiring for the oil pressure sending unit. Some engines have just one (looks like a tin can with threads on the bottom; threads into the block at the end right behind the intake manifold. Some also have an additional oil pressure switch that is used for the warning system; this can be in a port above the oil filter mount or on an adapter with the larger tin can style oil pressure sending unit.

Sometimes engines that have the dipstick tube that goes to the bottom of the pan will read incorrectly either after it’s been sitting for a day or 2 (reads high then) or right after it’s been run (reads low then). You should pull the dipstick out and let the oil level in the tube equalize for a few minutes then it will read correct. If it is still high then check for water in the oil; take the oil cap off and look inside the valve cover, if you see something that looks like mayonnaise then there’s water in the oil. It doesn’t always show on the dipstick right away...

All,

Appreciate responses. Im new to this forum stuff and missed both of these. I've determined that its not the oil pump, but something with the fuel. Now that I've replaced the fuel pump, I am not having issues accelerating and dying, just starting the motor occasionally. Could have fixed one of my problems by replacing the fuel pump, but still think there's an underlying issue.

Thanks again!
