From reading other posts I have found here I'm guessing about a Johnson 88 SPL I may get. The silver "plug" on the top of the engine block says G3318787 and the cowling says 88 SPL. Does that mean that it's a 1987, 88HP, V4 cross flow Special Package/Price engine that has been described here as "virtually bulletproof"? What does the G33187 in the S/N mean?

Thanks very much for helping me with this. It means I'll be able to buy the right manual and do right by what sounds to be a very good engine.

Thanks alot.

Tom

Hello Decker,
Look on the starboard side transom bracket for the mod. and serial number, should be there, then use the code.
I N T R O D U C E S
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0
Disregard the last letter in the model no. and use the next 2
example J70ELTCCM J stands for Johnson 70 tells the HP E stands for electric start, L stands for long shaft T stands for t/t model, and CC says it's an 1988 year
