I have a 20' 4" bayliner 205.I am wondering if i should get 48" posts or 60".i would prefer the cheaper 48" but not sure if they would be tall enough? Thanks

Re: Guide Posts

letsgo, I was able to just take some PVC pipe and place them over the shorter post on the trailer and cut them to the height I needed. you will need to run a bolt thru the bottom so that they wont float off when you go in the water. it worked for me.

measure from the mount point on the trailer, up to where you want the top of the post to hit the boat when in the water, then add 12 - 16" to compensate for the trailer being that far under water.

If your launch is extremely steep, and your trailer will be further under water, then add 20 -24".

60" is excessive for your size boat. go 48" and you'll be fine.

Re: Guide Posts

My original guide posts were just a little taller than the deck of my boat. They were fine for guiding the boat onto the trailer but I found them lacking when backing the trailer down the ramp. I'd lose track of where they were after the boat went over the lip of the ramp but the truck was still on the level part. I have since added lighted inserts which effectively made the guides about 2 feet taller and they are much easier to see when backing down the ramp.

Just buy the brackets, then go to Lowes and purchase PVC pipe to slide over and then cut to the needed legnth.
