Question for any of you experts. Just bought the boat with a Volvo AQ131A. Hand't ran for about two years prior. Started it and it ran pretty well. Decieded to pull the carb and clean it and a new kit, new gas, plugs and wires. Went to start it again, runs for about 30 seconds and then coughs up gas through the top of the carb, sometimes flames out of the carb. Did the carb adjustments for about a week, every possible configuration i could think of. Last night, looked down at the Distributer and saw a marking of another placement. Move it to the old spot and the motor started and runs purrs like a kitten. QUESTION: Can you compensate for a dirty carb by adjusting the distributer. If you can, Is it safe to assume that this is why it did what it did?
Dirty carb= poor motor performance=adjust the distr=good motor.
Clean carb= poor motor performance=readjust thedistr=good motor.
What do you think??
Thank you all and have a great weekend
Semper fi!
