From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia
>
>Hi Yanks,
>I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under. It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
>
>The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent, Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent; Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)! In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not ! and criminals still possess their guns!)
>
>While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly.
>
>Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in "successfully ridding Australian society of guns." You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the state Assembly disseminating this information.
>
>The Australian experience proves it. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens. Take note Americans, before it's to late!

It just wouldn't be right if I didn't weight-in in this thread. When will our Commonwealth Cousins come to their senses? They have all so foolishly thrown away an "inalienable right".

Just a reminder what we'll get if we put John Kerry, Tom Daschle, et. al. back into power!

Interesting but (so far) useless tidbit… several years ago when a whole slew of gun control legislation stared filtering through Congress, a small group of concerned patriots procured the NC coding for all current military issue small arm…and distributed it. The thinking being, when push comes to shove, any one with a PC and a $400 lathe in their kitchen can produce the restricted parts they would need (should they ever feel you need) but can’t get. You can figure out the rest.

All anyone has to do is look at Florida.

When they legalized citizens to carry weapons, the crime rate dropped over 75% in ONE DAY !!

The crime rate dropped so low that the State of Florida lost it's federal monies for crime, and they had to reformulate the way they report crime to the feds in order to get back into the money!

You will never find that data reported to the American public by the libral media in this country... EVER !!!!

The State of Florida proved, that gun ownership, and the carrying of said weapons by its citizens, is the only way to gaurentee the safety of its citizens!!

Pointer and all,
The news from Australia is correct. Trouble is the stupid politicians are bending over to please the vocal minority all the time. Our gun laws in New Zealand are getting restrictive with talk of registration coming back regularly in spite of Police members being against it. One of the problems is that the gun control lobby is not using factual information at all and the press dont care to publish the real facts.
Many valuable guns in Australia simply went underground rather than surrender them for what the Govt was paying in compensation.
The situation with your near neighbors in Canada is absolutely out of control in their debacle over registration. I just hope that it will not happen here.

Peter

No, you won’t, but it’s there. Crime reporting is mandated by the U.S. Attorney General (currently Ashcroft) and tasked to the FBI, and published annually by DOJ. It is available in most (if not all) public libraries in the ‘reference’ section. It is called the Uniform Crime Report. ‘Uniform’ because 50 states can each have their own definition for a specific crime. For the report, the FBI defines the crime and all police departments report back statistics based on the FBI’s criteria to assimilate a uniform reporting.

Example: rape. In some states it is what you think it is. In others, it is what you think it is but only if a male perpetrator and female victim, never female perpetrator and never male/male. In other states, rape can be defined as just the ‘intent’ of the perpetrator. While other states include a definition of rape being as vague as the “fear of being pursued” for that intent. Without uniform reporting, it would be meaningless to compare one state’s crime stats to another state’s.

You should be able to look at the UCR for the year before and the years after the FL CCW went into affect to get a realist idea of the change in crime.

Re: Gun Control Update from Down Under

hello
yep gun control has 2 meanings.
one is using both hands and the other means being able tohit what ya shot at.
after that if your not a convicted felon then you should not have to report any guns. and what do you mean the crimminals did not turn in a gun? I mean thats illegal. :) :)
sounds like the librals with no life experiences or traing with a weapon are at it again.
