I think it's a Johnson 1988 or that's what the owner said it was.Pics a comming.
Was running good,just quit.
Has fuel(no water).Good comp 150+ all 4 cyl.

NO SPARK!!

Disconected the black/yellow(stripe) it started for a few seconds and I shut it down.
Now won't do anything even with the lead connected or disconected.
Checked the stator seems to be good on all the tests.
Trigger seems good also.

Haven't gotten flywheel off yet.Gotta get a bigger socket.

Any other things I can check???
Will have the socket in the AM.
I have a peak reading volt meter.

Just looking for possibilities.
I usually work on Force/Chryslers.

Thanks,Jerry

Have you got a model number, that will tell exactly what the engine is.
When you know what you have, go to the CDI website and look up your engine. Use their troubleshooting guide to help you find your problem.

if iam not mistaken , your model does not have a regulator outside i think its built into the power pack there fore you have to check if you got 12v going into the power pack witch gets boosted by the stator & then that boosted power gets cent to the capacitor inside the power pack & held there until the pulse coming from the timer base releases it to spark plugs

Re: Guru HELP??? 120/1988

The model I'm working on has the regulator under the pack.
It's cooled by the water going through the head.
The stator/trigger output is good according to specs.
Regulator tests good too.

CDI says the ohms should be a 450-550,and 1000 is what Outboard ignition says.
It's 450-550
No directions on testing the pack???
It has power in but no power out.
It seems the timer and stator is doing what it's supposed to???
Thanks.Jerry

In some cases you check everything around the pack, and if everything else checks good, you replace the pack.
