But not on the water unfortunately. My latest investment isn't quite seaworty just yet. Back in March I picked up a 76 Thompson open bow. I got what I still consider to be a good deal on it, but it had some as-yet undiagnosed problems. The plus is it runs like it's brand new (Mercruiser 120 and pre-Alpha outdrive), and the hull itself is in suprisingly good shape for it's age. I was told by the PO that he replaced the floor in it. Turns out, his idea of "replacing the floor" was to just add new plywood over the existing rotten floor. So, I figured the stringers, transom, and everything else was pretty much shot. Turns out, the stringers seem to still be solid, and aside from a few small rotted sections around screw holes higher up, the transom is still pretty solid. So, I've decided to get it seaworthy and fish it this year, then pull it down this winter and restore/rebuild/invest/mortgage the house/whatever I need to make all necessary repairs.
Anyway, this weekend I fixed the bow eye, reattached the swim platform that my 285 lb. brother-in-law decided to "test" for me, installed new nav and anchor lights, new bilge pump and blower, new switches to control everything, new impeller, and changed the drive oil. Next weekend, an oil change, fuel filter change, water separator installation, tune-up, and at least three trips to the local auto parts and/or hardware store are in order. Thank goodness they're only 15 miles or so from the house. Anyway, just thought I'd share my weekend with y'all. It's nice when things actually go according to plan.
